Is the Sapphire Reserve worth $795?
The hotel credits come to $750 against a $795 fee — but only if you spend enough to draw them in full, and only if you make three qualifying bookings a year. Here is that arithmetic against 1,452 real properties.

The Sapphire Reserve costs $795 a year, plus $195 for each authorized user. This page answers one part of whether that is worth paying: what the hotel credits alone give back, priced against 1,452 real Edit properties rather than against their face value. It does not try to value the rest of the card, for a reason set out at the bottom.
The hotel credits, at face value

$750 of a $795 fee, leaving $45 to be covered by everything else the card does — the $300 travel credit, the dining, StubHub, DoorDash and Lyft credits, the 8x on portal bookings, and the travel protections. For many people that $45 is covered several times over. For some it is not covered at all.
Face value is not what you get
This is the part a table of benefits will not tell you, and it is the reason this site exists. A statement credit reimburses what you actually spend, up to its cap, and the rest expires. So the credit is only worth $250 if the stay costs at least $250.
On our sampled two-night prices, 1,423 of the 1,440 priced properties cost at least their own cap, so the credit is drawn in full; the other 17 return less than the cap and forfeit the difference. Among the 164 priced properties where both credits stack, 149 price at or above $500, which is what it takes to collect that pair whole. The median sampled two-night total across the directory is $1,268.
Read the other way round, that is reassuring: at typical Edit prices the credits are drawn in full, because most of these hotels are expensive. The forfeiture problem is real but it lives at the cheap end, and it is avoidable by picking a stay that lands just above the cap rather than well below it.
When the answer is no
The credits are worth nothing to someone who will not use them, and they are unusually demanding about how:
- You have to make three separate qualifying bookings in a year to collect all $750 — two Edit stays plus one at a Select Hotels brand. Two stays a year, not one trip.
- Every one has to be at least two nights, prepaid, in cash, through Chase’s portal. If you book hotels on points, or direct for status, or one night at a time, this benefit is not built for you.
- The Edit is a luxury list. The median stay here is $1,268 for two nights. If it would push you into hotels you would not otherwise book, the credit is a discount on spending you invented, not money back.
- $250 of the $750 disappears after 2026. The Select Hotels credit is one-time and expires on 31 December 2026, so the arithmetic on this page gets worse next year unless Chase replaces it.
What this page deliberately does not do
It does not add up every credit on the card and announce a total. The dining, StubHub, DoorDash, Lyft and Apple credits are worth what you would have spent on those things anyway, which is a number only you have — and a page that assigns them all face value to reach a figure comfortably above $795 is telling you what you want to hear. The hotel credits are the half of the card this site has real data on, so they are the half it will speak to. The rest is yours to price, and this is information rather than financial advice.
